| | WHC Celebrates National Home Care Month |
| | More than 11 million Americans receive home-delivered health care from home health care providers. In their honor, Waverly Health Center (WHC) home and community health is celebrating November as National Home Care Month under the theme, “Preserving Health Independence and Freedom.”
With 77 million Baby Boomers only years from hitting retirement age and seniors numbering 35 million, a significant portion of the American population either is or will soon be evaluating their options when it comes to long term care.
"It’s important to remember that people have choices. Home care provides treatment in the patient’s home with familiar surroundings which results in a positive and therapeutic effect," said Barb McWhirter, manager of WHC home and community health. “Home care also promotes independence and human dignity for patients.”
Home care continues to be the answer to caring for sick and disabled loved ones because of the increased demand on health care providers, personal preference, increased public awareness of the availability of home care services, new technology and added cost-effectiveness of home health care.
Through technological advances, home-delivered health care has grown far beyond basic professional nursing and home care aide services. Today's modern home care agency offers nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapies, counseling, personal care and homemaking. WHC home and community health recently added tele-monitoring services with which patients may monitor vital signs daily and transmit them to home and community health for assessment by a nurse.
Home care services are paid for by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance companies. Services are available within a 30 mile radius of Waverly.
